Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:45 am, the temperature is 44.8 degrees.
This is going to be a beautiful day, sunny, with a high temperature in the lower to middle 60’s, falling to the low 40’s tonight in the valleys. It will be partly sunny tomorrow and cooler, with a high in the upper 50’s and a low in the upper 30’s. Temperatures will be falling later this week. Lows will dip into the low 30’s and possibly below the freezing mark at night by the weekend.
Snow is predicted at Mount LeConte Wednesday night and Thursday. The high temperature Thursday will be about 32 degrees. Lows in the 20’s are predicted this weekend at the high elevations.
Little River is flowing at 235 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.12 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 94 cfs. The water temperature is 54.9 degrees this morning.
Streams were rising yesterday morning when I wrote this report and they continued to rise as the morning progressed. They peaked by the afternoon and began to recede. Most are fishable now and flowing higher than median flow. Water temperatures are good in the low to middle elevations.
This will be a good nymphing day. Use your heavier rigs.
Lowland rivers are flowing fairly high this morning. Smallmouth bass may be active. Use nymphs and streamers. Stocked trout will be feeding. Nymphs and streamers will get their attention.
There will be long periods of generation at most dams today. I didn’t see any good tailwater wade fishing choices but I did not check every schedule. Visit the TVA website to see what is going on at your favorite tailwater. You will have more choices if you are boating and carefully planning.
This will be a nice lake fishing day. It will be somewhat warm with calm winds out of the north. Try casting to the banks with streamers or swimming nymphs when the sun is low, early or late.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
