Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:41 am, the temperature is 43.7 degrees.
It will be mostly cloudy today with a high temperature in the low 50’s, falling to the low 40’s tonight. The high temperature tomorrow will be in the low 50’s, but expect some light rain. The low tomorrow night will be in the middle 30’s.
Little River is flowing at 154 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.85 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 122 cfs. The water temperature is 52.5 degrees.
Most streams in the Smokies are flowing at or slightly higher than normal. Water temperatures are falling with some being in the 40’s in the higher elevations. You will do best fishing in the low elevations where the water is warmer. Nymphs will probably work best. Watch for blue wing olive hatches this week, on cloudy days.
Lowland rivers are flowing near normal. Smallmouth bass may be fairly active. Streamers and nymphs will work best for them. Trout, where they are stocked will be actively feeding. Use streamers, nymphs or egg patterns.
I saw no ideal generation schedules at the dams nearby for wade fishing in the tailwaters. There may be some you can work with if you are boating. I did see a break in the schedule at Center Hill Dam. If you live in Middle Tennessee, check that one. There may be other options so visit the TVA website to see what they are.
Lake fly fishermen will enjoy the overcast skies today. It may be breezy at times. Cast to the banks with streamers or swimming nymphs. Watch for surface activity, as schools of shad may be near the surface with game fish feeding on them.
We have a nice weekend to look forward to, with sunny skies and fairly warm temperatures predicted Friday through Sunday. It will be chilly at night though, but perfect for sitting around the campfire.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
