Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:39 am, the temperature is 42.8 degrees.
It will be mostly sunny today with a high temperature in the middle to upper 60’s falling to the low 50’s tonight. We have a slight chance for showers today with a high chance tonight. Tomorrow will be warm again and it will rain. Between a quarter and a half inch of rain is predicted tomorrow.
More rain is predicted later this week. After tomorrow, it looks like Wednesday and Saturday will be wet, according to the long term forecast.
Little River is flowing at 91.8 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.59 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 232 cfs. The water temperature is 47.7 degrees this morning.
Streams in the Smokies are flowing lower than normal. Some are flowing very low. Water temperatures are rising which will improve fishing. Fish the low elevations today where the water is warmer. Do everything possible to avoid being seen by the trout. Nymphs will probably work best but aquatic insects may be active. Have some blue wing olive dries and emergers in your box, just in case.
Lowland rivers are flowing low for now. Smallmouth bass may be somewhat active. Trout will be active, where they are stocked. Nymphs, egg patterns and Squirmy Worms are good fly choices.
There will be angler friendly flows on some of the tailwaters at times today. Check the TVA website from the links below to see what your options are. Tailwater fishing might be a good idea today. Some of the rivers are fishing well.
I remember one year it snowed during the Townsend Christmas Parade. That won’t happen today. Many people flock to our annual parade and enjoy the Christmas festivities. It will be warm today and hopefully dry. This should be a good one. Townsend is known for our great Christmas Parade.
The parade begins at 2:30 this afternoon and will end at 5:30 pm. You will not be able to drive through town during that time so plan accordingly.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
