Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:40 am, the temperature is 65.1 degrees.
It is breezy and warm right now. Believe it or not, it is going to rain today. We have a 100% chance. Expect between a quarter and one half on an inch. The high elevations in the Smokies are under a “Wind Advisory”. Temperatures will fall today reaching a low in the upper 20’s tonight. It will be sunny tomorrow with a high around 50 degrees.
Little River is flowing at 89.7 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.58 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 246 cfs. The water temperature is 49.3 degrees.
All streams in the mountains are flowing low. Water temperatures are rising this morning. The streams will likely be rising later today. If you go, fish in the lower elevations where the water is warmer. Nymphs will work. Dry flies may work too.
Be aware that it will be windy today. And, there is a chance streams may become stained.
Lowland rivers are flowing low and they are warming for now. Smallmouth bass may be somewhat active. Trout, where they are stocked will be active. Nymphs, egg patterns and Squirmy Worms are good fly choices in the trout stocked waters.
There are a few tailwater fishing possibilities today. Check the generation schedules at Norris and South Holston Dams. There may be other generation schedules you can work with.
Firehole just introduced a new jig hook with a curved shank that will likely prove to be very popular for tying nymphs and midges. It is named the “520” and it is so unique, a patent has been applied for. They are in stock now at the shop and on our online store. We are also adding new colors of center hole and slotted Firehole beads. One color is “Birthday Suit”. These beads are made from raw tungsten, with no color added, either by plating or painting.
We have been bringing in many new fly tying materials and the department is stocked very well. Some of the recent arrivals are shown on the online store fly tying landing page. You can see it by CLICKING HERE. We have over 2,100 fly tying items displayed for sale online and there are more to be added.
We have never sold fly tying materials online until this year. Will and I have been working on this project for 10 months. We work as a team. He writes the content, arranges the options, gets the page ready and I shoot the photos. We have a continuously updated list of items to be added and the list is dwindling.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
