Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:43 am, the temperature is 64.9 degrees.
Rain moved in at about 1:30 am and so far .75 inches has fallen in Townsend.
Showers and thunderstorms are likely today. It will be breezy. The high temperature is predicted to be in the low 70’s. New rainfall amounts are expected to be between a half and three quarters of an inch today. Showers and thunderstorms are predicted tonight. The rain will end tomorrow afternoon, then resume Friday and continue through Sunday.
It will be windy today with gusts up to 20 miles per hour.
Little River is flowing at 146 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.82 feet on the gauge. The river is rising. Median flow for this date is 317 cfs. The water temperature is 55.4 degrees.
Streams in the Smokies are flowing below normal and warm. Some streams on the west side of the mountains have begun rising.
This is probably not a good day to be fishing in the mountains, due to the threats of wind and heavy rain.
TVA and the Corps will be generating at many dams today with no long breaks planned. One exception is South Holston Dam. There may be others. Check the generation schedules from the links below to see what tailwater fishing options you have today.
We are busy at the shop this week. That is normal the week after Christmas but this year is different. We are having Spring-like weather, warm streams and active trout. We need the rain, but we may get too much, putting a damper of the fishing.
We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
