Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 5:34 am, the temperature is 58.3 degrees.
Strong storms and heavy rain blew through the area overnight. Between 1.99” and 2.39” of rain was reported at two locations during the past 24 hours in Townsend.
More rain is predicted today with a high temperature in the upper 50’s, falling to the upper 20’s tonight. Portions of East Tennessee are under a Winter Storm Warning tonight and tomorrow morning. Two to five inches of snow is possible in some areas, especially in the mountains. Tomorrow will be clearing later in the day with a high in the upper 30’s and a low near 20 degrees.
Little River is flowing at 1,500 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 4.04 feet on the gauge. The river is rising. Median flow for this date is 318 cfs. The water temperature is 57.0 degrees this morning.
Little Pigeon River is flowing at 3,270 cfs or 4.56 feet at the Sevierville gauge. Median flow for this date is 554 cfs.
Oconaluftee River is flowing at 1,850 cfs, 3.39 feet, compared to median flow of 552 cfs. The river is rising quickly.
Tellico River is rising, and currently flowing at 1,760 cfs or 4.75 feet. Median flow is 296 cfs for this date.
Cataloochee Creek is flowing at 773 cfs, 4.22 feet and rising. Median flow is 132 cfs for this date.
My best guess is, all streams in the mountains are blown out and unsafe to wade and fish. And, they are probably all still rising.
Lowland river fishing is probably out of the question today due to very high water.
There will be long breaks in the generation at several dams today. You have some tailwater fishing options available to you. Check the TVA website from the links below to see what your options are.
We will be open today from 9 am until 5 pm.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
