Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:30 am, the temperature is 52.3 degrees.
Today will be partly sunny with a low chance for rain. It will be windy at times. The high temperature today will be in the low to middle 70’ with a low tonight in the middle 50’s. Heavy rain and wind is expected tonight. We may get 1 to 3 inches or rain. We are under a flood watch tonight.
Expect showers and thunderstorms tomorrow, with a high in the middle to upper 60’s and a low around 50 degrees. Rain and warm temperatures are predicted through Friday.
Little River is flowing at 341 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.28 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 372 cfs. The water temperature is 46.6 degrees this morning.
Water temperatures are warmer and the streams will continue to warm through Friday. Fishing would be much improved except for the likely high water this week.
Fishing in the mountains today could be risky due to predicted high winds.
Lowland river fishing for stocked trout will improve this week as the water warms. The problem is, the streams may be flowing too high to fish.
I clicked through some of the TVA generation links below and saw very few tailwater wade fishing options.
Check the TVA website yourself. You may find a tailwater generation schedule you can work with.
Only time will tell what happens this week. I hate writing fishing reports like this one. Maybe the weather will not be as bad as they say. Maybe I am too cautious. The weather may turn out to be better than predicted. I hope so.
The really good news is, we are inching our way closer to fly fishing Spring. We can all look forward to that. We can prepare and plan.
We can tie flies. There is no doubt in my mind, more people are tying flies than were two years ago. All I have to do is look at what we have been selling. I talk to a lot of customers, who are learning to tie flies by watching YouTube.
I started tying flies in 1962, and I still watch, enjoy and learn from the tying videos. We are constantly trying to figure out ways to fool fish. I love it! There are worse ways to spend your time. A lot worse.
Have a great “twosday” and thank you for being here with us.
