Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 5:23 am, the temperature is 62.4 degrees.
The power at our house went out overnight and just came back on. Strong winds blew all night. It started raining at our house at about 2:30 am.
Downed power lines sparked wildfires in some counties. One fire started yesterday in Wears Valley in the Waldens Creek area. The local news reports that fire has grown to 1,000 acres and is 0% contained. Mandatory evacuation orders were issued in parts of Sevier County, including Wears Valley and Gatlinburg. It appears the Gatlinburg evacuation order has been lifted.
We got reports on our phones that the evacuation area in Wears Valley has been extended to the Blount County line. Townsend is in Blount County.
While I was writing this report from home, the power went out again. I am at the shop now but our internet service is down.
Without internet service, we cannot work. Everything we do is done using the internet. We can’t process credit cards, ring up sales, order or receive merchandise or anything else. Even our phones are internet devices. I can’t upload this report to our remote server for you to view. We are not able to download online orders. I drove to Ace Hardware. Their internet and phones are down too. They use the same provider we do.
I think it is safe to say, we are internet dependent.
On the way to the shop this morning, I saw a portable flashing sign indicating Wears Valley Road is closed. Most roads in Great Smoky Mountains National Park are closed. There are travel trailers and motor coaches parked around town. These folks were headed to campgrounds in the National Park but were turned away and found places in town to park.
I am using Daniel’s phone as a hot spot so maybe we’ll get this fishing report up and running
It will be sunny, warm and windy today. The high temperature will be in the low 70’s falling to the low 40’s tonight. Tomorrow will be partly sunny with a high in the upper 50’s and a low in the middle 30’s. The weekend will be sunny and fairly warm.
Little River is flowing at 256 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.07 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 359 cfs. The water temperature is 54.7 degrees this morning.
Some streams in the Smokies are flowing lower than normal while others are flowing higher. Some are rising quickly. Little River is rising slowly. Water temperatures are excellent.
With many roads closed in the Park, fishing access is limited. Maybe the roads will open later.
Lowland river fishing for stocked trout is good. Try nymphs and Squirmy Worms.
There are a few tailwater fishing opportunities today. Check the TVA website from the links below to see what options you have.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
