Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:40 am, the temperature is 38.5 degrees.
Rain will move into the area today with snow accumulating in the higher elevations. The high temperature will be in the low 50’s, dropping to the low 30’s tonight. Up to 5 inches of snow is predicted in the mountains today and tonight. Snow flurries are expected in the foothills tonight and tomorrow morning.
There is a marginal chance for rain tomorrow with a high in the low 50’s and a low temperature in the low 30’s tomorrow night. Sunday will be sunny and warmer as Redbud Winter ends.
Little River is flowing at 345 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.38 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 362 cfs. The water temperature is 51.3 degrees and falling.
Streams in the Smokies are flowing near median flow which is fairly high. Water temperatures are falling.
If you go today, fish in the lower elevations where the water is warmer. Weighted nymph rigs will likely work best for you.
Lowland river fishing for stocked trout should be fair to good today. Nymphs, bead head midges, squirmy worms, mop flies and small streamers are good fly choices.
Smallmouth bass fishing in these rivers may be fair. Nymphs and streamers will work best. As water temperatures fall over the next couple of days, smallmouth bass may become less active.
Fishing in the mountains and foothills may be slower today and tomorrow due to falling water temperatures. Fishing should improve Sunday and through next week.
Tailwater anglers have been enjoying long pauses in the generation at many dams. There will be tailwater fishing opportunities again today. Visit the TVA website from the links below to see what tailwater fishing options you have.
I will be working on fly tying material shipments today and tomorrow. We will be launching some new Semperfli materials on the online store by Monday. Most of the preparation is done. I’m just waiting for the new materials to arrive today. We do have Semperfli thread for sale on the online store now.
Semperfli is a great company to work with. Though they are headquartered in England, where the products are made in-house, they have a distribution center in Idaho. Gary, the US sales manager and I have been in constant contact via email as we work to add their offerings to ours. When I place an order with them, it is prepared to ship the same day, 100% fulfilled.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
