Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:46 am, the temperature is 55.2 degrees.
Today, tomorrow and Sunday will be sunny, warm and dry. High temperatures each day will be in the low to middle 80’s, with lows at night in the middle to upper 50’s.
Little River is flowing at 328 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.34 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 252 cfs. The water temperature is 55.2 degrees.
Most streams in the mountains are flowing near normal with some flowing higher than normal for this date.
Water temperatures are excellent, well within the trout’s preferred range. Trout are actively feeding.
Nymphs, dry flies and wet flies are working well. We could not ask for better fishing conditions. More important than fly selection is getting a good drift and avoid spooking the trout. Go fishing today and you will do well.
Fishing for stocked trout in the lowland rivers flowing out of the mountains is good. Offer the trout nymphs, squirmy worms, mop flies, midges or small streamers. The trout are active and feeding on any food they can find.
Fly fishing for smallmouth bass and panfish in the rivers flowing through the valleys is going to be good today and through the weekend, due to the warmer water temperatures. Nymphs and streamers will work. Try poppers or foam floating flies too.
Long pauses in the generation schedules at several dams are planned today. There are many tailwater fishing choices whether you are wading or boating. Visit the TVA website from the links below to see what your options are.
Townsend is packed with Ford Bronco enthusiasts and their vehicles. Going on now is the Bronco Super Celebration (East), held at the Townsend Visitor Center. Everywhere you look in and around town, you will see Broncos. You will see early vintage models, later versions and new models. This event has been hosted in Townsend since 2006 and I can’t believe how it has grown. I remember when it was first held at the Tally Ho Inn and remained there for several years. The current venue is a 30 acre site. CLICK HERE to learn more.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
