Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:53 am, the temperature is 68.9 degrees.
Today will be sunny and hot with a high temperature in the low 90’s. There is a chance for thunderstorms tonight. It will be cooler tomorrow, with a high in the middle 80’s and a chance for scattered thunderstorms.
Little River is flowing at 144 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.79 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 122 cfs. The water temperature is 69.8 degrees this morning.
Most streams in the Smokies are flowing at normal or higher than normal this morning. Normal is low in early July.Water temperatures are warm in the low elevations. Fish higher where the water is cooler. Trout are taking dry flies and nymphs.
Most of the lowland rivers are flowing at or higher than normal. Fishing for smallmouth bass, rock bass and panfish is fair to good. They can be enticed using poppers, foam floating flies, streamers, nymphs or crayfish patterns.
It will be sunny and hot on the lakes today. Winds will be light. I would go early, at daybreak, and fish the banks using poppers, foam floating flies, steamers or swimming nymphs. As the sun rises, find shaded banks to fish. When the sun is high, I would go home.
There are some tailwater generation schedules you can work with today, especially early.
Yesterday, I struggled to write the fishing report and I’m having issues again today. I have a stomach virus, with fever and a lot of other symptoms. I performed a Covid home test yesterday and the result was negative.
I’m hoping to be back to normal tomorrow.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
