Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:44 am, the temperature is 32 degrees.
Today will be partly sunny early then cloudy later with a high temperature in the low 50’s, falling to the middle 30’s tonight. Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy with a chance for rain and a high in the low 50’s.
Extremely cold air will move into the area tomorrow night. Rain will change to snow. Snow accumulations of less than one inch are expected. The low temperature is predicted to be 8 degrees.
Friday will be windy with a high temperature of around 11 degrees, falling to around 2 degrees overnight. Saturday will be cold and windy with a high around 19 degrees and a low of 7 degrees overnight. Christmas Day will be sunny with a high temperature near 30 degrees.
We are under a wind chill watch Friday through Saturday afternoon.
Little River is flowing at 222 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.08 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 219 cfs. The water temperature is 42.3 degrees this morning.
Water temperatures will warm some today and tomorrow. Fishing may improve, depending on how much the rivers warm. I don’t think fishing will improve much. If you go, weighted nymphs will work best for you.
After tomorrow, going fishing will be dangerous. Wind chills as low as 15 below zero are possible in the low elevations through Saturday. Wind chills as low as 25 below zero are possible in the high elevations.
TVA and the Corps will be generating around the clock at every dam I checked this morning. They are producing electricity and it will be needed this week. Check the TVA website yourself. You may find a generation schedule you can work with at your favorite tailwater.
It is hard to believe the forecast for the New Year weekend. We can expect rain with highs in the 60’s and lows in the 50’s.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
