Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:46 am, the temperature is 17 degrees.
I saw some snow flurries early this morning but none are falling now. There is no snow accumulated on the ground. It is very cold and the temperatures are falling. It will be windy today with gusts as high as 30 miles per hour.
We have a chance for snow flurries this morning. The high temperature today is predicted to be 10 degrees and falling. Tonight will be mostly cloudy with a low temperature near zero. Tomorrow will be sunny with a high in the low 20’s. The low temperature tomorrow night will be in the single digits. We are under a Wind Chill Warning through tomorrow.
Christmas Day will be sunny with a high in the upper 20’s and a low around 11 degrees overnight.
Some roads in Great Smoky Mountains National Park are closed, including Little River Road, Cherokee Orchard Road and Newfound Gap Road.
I think the shop will be open today, but I won’t know for sure until after sunrise and we check the roads for ice. Call us at 865-448-9459 before you drive to the shop. We will be open tomorrow, Christmas Eve, between 9:00 am and Noon.
Little River is flowing at 199 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.01 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 271 cfs. The water temperature is 43.3 degrees this morning and falling.
Fishing under these conditions is dangerous. With water temperatures plunging, you probably wouldn’t catch anything anyway.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
