Little River is flowing at 170 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.91 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 326 cfs. The water temperature is 45.1 degrees at the low elevation gauge site near Townsend.
Streams in the Smokies are flowing below normal this morning. Water temperatures are fairly chilly but there should be some warming today. Fishing is improving.
If you go fishing in the mountains today, weighted nymph rigs will probably work best for you. Be on the lookout for hatches of blue wing olives or other aquatic insects. If trout are feeding on the surface, switch to a dry fly or emerger that mimics what you see on the water.
Fishing for stocked trout in the low elevations is improving as the streams warm. You should do well fishing in these rivers today and tomorrow. Weighted nymphs will probably work best though streamers might work too.
Fishing for smallmouth bass in the lowland rivers is slow for now but may improve somewhat today depending on how much the water warms. Nymphs and streamers will work best for you.
TVA and the Corps of Engineers are planning some long breaks in the generation at several dams today. You may have some tailwater fishing opportunities. Visit the TVA website from the links below to see what is going on at your favorite tailwater.
