Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:47 am, the temperature is 59 degrees.
Rain is likely today mainly before noon. Rainfall amounts of up to one half of an inch is possible. That’s not a lot but it will help. The high temperature today will be in the middle 50’s with a low tonight in the low 40’s.
Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy with a high in the upper 50’s dropping to the low 40’s overnight. Sunday will bring us a fairly low chance for more rain, with a high in the upper 50’s.
Little River is flowing at 39.6 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.27 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 151 cfs. The water temperature is 55.6 degrees this morning.
Streams in the mountains are all flowing very low. Fishing for trout has been tough. The fish are spooky. Stealth is paramount to your success. Dress to blend with the forest. Use fine tippet. Stay low and wade as little as possible. You may need to move often. When you catch a trout you will likely scare every other fish in the pool. Trout are taking dry flies and nymphs.
Fishing for smallmouth bass may be fair in some rivers. They are all flowing very low. Water temperatures are fine right now. Fish in the deeper pools with streamers or crayfish patterns.
There are generation schedules you can work with today at some dams. This could be an ideal day to fish on a tailwater. Check the TVA website from the links below to see what tailwater fishing options you have today.
We will be hold a Free Fly Tying Demonstration tomorrow, Saturday November 11th, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. The featured fly tyer will be Matt Dixon, who is a local tailwater fly fishing guide. Matt will be tying streamers that he uses to catch large trout. All you have to do is show up at the shop.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
