Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:46 am, the temperature is 36 degrees.
Today will be mostly sunny with a high temperature around 67 degrees, dropping to the upper 30’s tonight. Tomorrow will be similar with a high in the middle 60’s and a low in the low 40’s.
Little River is flowing at 39.6 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.27 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 143 cfs. The water temperature is 50.7 degrees this morning.
Streams in the Smokies are flowing very low. Trout are spooky and difficult to catch. Success depends on you being sneaky and not letting the trout see you. Dress to blend with the forest. Show the trout your leader, not your fly line. Use fine tippet. Wade as little as possible.
Water temperatures are favorable in the low elevations.
Fly fishing for smallmouth bass in the lowland rivers is probably slow. The rivers are flowing very low and they are fairly chilly. If you go, cast streamers or crayfish patterns in the deeper pools and runs.
If you are interested in fishing on a tailwater today, there are a few acceptable generation schedules you can work with whether you are wading or boating. Visit the TVA website from the links below to see what tailwater fishing options you have today.
Chris, one of our Simms sales representatives will be visiting with Daniel and I today. We actually have two Simms reps, and both are named Chris. These guys also represent other companies.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
