Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 6:06 am, the temperature is 35 degrees.
It will warm up later. Today will be sunny with a high temperature in the low 60’s, falling to the low 40’s tonight. Tomorrow will be partly sunny with a high in the middle 60’s. It will be breezy with wind gusts up to 20 miles per hour.
Rain will move into the area Monday night and it will be windy. The low temperatures overnight will be in the upper 40’s. Tuesday will be breezy with a 100% chance for rain. There is the potential for heavy rainfall on Tuesday.
Little River is flowing at 53.5 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.36 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 148 cfs. The water temperature is 51.3 degrees this morning.
Streams in the mountains are still flowing very low. Water temperatures are within the trout’s preferred range in the low elevations this morning. But, the water temperature is falling. You may want to wait a while before going fishing when the water is warmer.
Stay hidden from the trout. If they see you the game is over. They are definitely spooky but anglers are catching them on nymphs.
Fishing for smallmouth bass in the lowland rivers will be fair at best. The water is low and water temperatures are plunging right now. Fishing for smallies may improve later today. Fish in the deeper pools and runs with streamers or crayfish imitations.
