Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:47 am, the temperature is 38 degrees.
It rained overnight. The Knoxville Airport reported .29 inches and a personal weather station in Townsend reports .31 inches fell last night.
It will be cloudy early today before clearing later with a high temperature in the low 40’s, dropping to the middle 20’s tonight. Tomorrow will be sunny with a high in the low 40’s and a low in the low 20’s.
Little River is flowing at 65.9 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.43 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 186 cfs. The water temperature is 46.8 degrees this morning.
Rainfall in the Smokies was either very light or non-existent last night. Most streams are flowing lower than normal with little to no apparent change in levels. Some are flowing very low. Water temperatures are chilly even in the lowest elevations. It will be cool today and cold tonight so no positive changes cannot be expected in the near future.
Fishing in the Smokies today will be challenging due to the cool water temperatures and low flows. Weighted nymphs or nymph rigs will likely work best for you. Fish in the low elevations where the water is warmer.
Fishing for stocked trout in the low elevations might be fair and possibly good. Nymphs are good fly choices. Small nymphs or midge pupa tied to a very fine tippet will probably work best.
Fishing for smallmouth bass in the lowland rivers will probably be slow due to cool water temperatures. If you go, try streamers or crayfish imitations.
There are generation schedules tailwater anglers can work with at a few dams today. There are not a large number of choices but you can check the TVA website from the links below to see what your options are.
