Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:41 am, the temperature is 22 degrees.
It will be sunny today with a high temperature around 40 degrees, dropping to 20 degrees tonight. Tomorrow will be sunny and warmer with a high in the low 50’s and a low around the freezing mark overnight.
It will be very cold and windy in the mountains today. The high temperature at Newfound Gap is predicted to be in the upper 20’s with wind chill values between 5 and 15. Wind gusts could reach 40 miles per hour.
Little River is flowing at 65.9 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.43 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 227 cfs. The water temperature is 41.5 degrees and falling.
Streams in the Smokies are flowing lower than normal. The water is very cold and the temperatures are falling this morning. We may see some warmth today but not much. Fishing in the mountains will be slow today. If you go, plan on using weighted nymphs and dress warm.
Fly fishing for smallmouth bass in the lowland rivers will be slow today.
You might get some action from stocked trout in the low elevations. Nymphs are your best fly choices.
There are breaks in the generation planed at a few dams today offering some tailwater fishing opportunities. Visit the TVA website from the links below to hopefully plan some time fishing on a tailwater.
