Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:40 am, the temperature is 37 degrees.
Today will be partly cloudy, with a slight chance for showers this afternoon, a high temperature in the upper 50’s and a low in the middle 30’s. Tomorrow will be mostly sunny with a high in the low 50’s and a low in the low to middle 30’s.
Little River is flowing at 320 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.32 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 221 cfs. The water temperature is 48.3 degrees.
Most streams in the mountains are flowing higher than normal for this date, and all streams are receding. Most streams are at fishable and safe wading levels. Water temperatures are slightly below the trout’s preferred range. Fishing will be best in the low elevations where the water is warmer. Weighted nymph rigs are good fly choices.
Fishing has improved for stocked trout in the low elevation rivers. Water levels are good. Water temperatures are fair and they will hopefully rise somewhat today. Nymphs will likely work best. Streamers may produce as well.
There are generation schedules at some dams you can work with to fish on the tailwaters below. Visit the TVA website to see what options you have today.
