Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:44 am, the temperature is 42 degrees.
There is a slight chance for showers this morning and possible snow flurries. The high temperature today will be in the middle to upper 40’s, dropping to the high 20’s tonight. Tomorrow will be sunny and warmer with a high in the middle 50’s and a low in the middle 30’s overnight.
Snow showers are likely in the mountains. The high temperature at Newfound Gap is predicted to be in the low 30’s today with a low tonight in the low 20’s. The Smoky Mountains are under a Winter Weather Advisory.
Little River is flowing at 154 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.83 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 246 cfs. The water temperature is 44.8 degrees this morning.
Most streams in the Smokies are flowing at good fishing levels and close to normal. The water temperature is below the trout’s preferred range.
If you go today, fish in the lower elevations where the water is warmer and to avoid slick roads. US Hwy 441/Newfound Gap Road is closed due to snow and ice. Other roads in the Park may close today so be aware of that. Nymphs or weighted nymph rigs will probably work best today.
Fishing for stocked trout will be fair to good today in the low elevation rivers. Nymphs or other sub-surface flies are good choices.
There are breaks in the generation planned at several dams today creating tailwater fishing opportunities. Check the TVA website from the links below to see what tailwater fishing options you have today.
