Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:41 am, the temperature is 25 degrees.
Today is starting out very cold but it will be warmer later. Today will be sunny with a high temperature in the middle to upper 50’s, with a low tonight in the middle 30’s. Tomorrow will be sunny and warmer with a high in the low 60’s and a low in the low 40’s overnight.
Rain returns to the forecast for Saturday and Sunday.
Little River is flowing at 129 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.73 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 222 cfs. The water temperature is 41.4 degrees and falling.
Most streams in the Smokies are flowing slightly lower than normal for this date. Water temperatures are way below the trout’s preferred range and falling this morning. Fishing will be mostly slow through the day with some improvement later when the water warms. We have a better chance for warmer water tomorrow. If you go fishing in the mountains today, go later and fish in the low elevations where the water is warmer. Weighted nymphs will probably work best for you.
Fishing for stocked trout in the low elevations will likely be slow, at least early today. Fishing may improve later. Nymphs are a good choice.
There are generation schedules you can work with on some of our tailwaters today. Go through the list below on the TVA website to find out what tailwater fishing options you have today.
