Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:44 am, the temperature is 44 degrees.
Today will be windy and wet. We can expect rain showers mainly before noon with a high in the middle 60’s. Winds will be out of the south at 5 to 15 miles per hour with gusts to 20 miles per hour.
Showers and thunderstorms are predicted tonight with a low temperature in the middle 40’s. It will be windy. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch are possible.
Showers and thunderstorms are predicted tomorrow. The high temperature will be in the upper 50’s. Rain will change to snow showers Sunday night as temperatures plunge to the upper 20’s. No snow accumulation is expectd in the low elevations.
Little River is flowing at 103 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.62 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 232 cfs. The water temperature is 42.1 degrees this morning.
Streams in the Smokies are flowing lower than normal for this date. That will likely change over the next two days. Right now, water temperatures are chilly and below the trout’s preferred range. Temperatures are not falling this morning. We will see some warming today.
If you go fishing in the mountains, fish in the low elevations where the water is warmer. Nymphs will probably work best.
Fishing for stocked trout is fair to good. Stocked trout don’t seem to mind the cold water like the wild trout do. Nymphs or other sub-surface flies are good choices.
There are generation schedules at many dams today that offer opportunities to fish on the tailwaters below if you plan well. Check the TVA website from the links below to see what tailwater fishing opportunities you have.
