Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 6:46 am, the temperature is 55 degrees.
We endured a night of strong thunderstorms and heavy rain. A total of 1.82 inches of rain was recorded in Townsend during the past 24 hours.
Showers and thunderstorms are likely today with the high temperature what it is right now. Some storms may produce heavy rain. Temperatures will fall throughout the day. Rain may change to snow tonight. Snow accumulation is expected mainly in the higher elevations. One to three inches is possible above 3,500 feet. The low temperature tonight will be in the middle 20’s.
Tomorrow will be sunny with a high in the low 40’s and the low in the middle 20’s.
Little River is flowing at 1,030 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 3.32 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 232 cfs. The water temperature is 50.4 degrees.
Most streams in the mountains are flowing very high and still rising. Tellico River is rising but it is not flowing much higher than normal right now. That may be changing.
With most streams flowing high, more rain on the way, and possibly heavy rain, this will not be a good day to be fishing in the mountains. Keep an eye on the Tellico River gauge as there may be an opportunity there.
Fishing for stocked trout will be slow in most low elevation rivers due to high water conditions. Again, Tellico River could be one exception and there may be more.
TVA and the Corps will not be generating for long periods at many dams today. There are wading and boating tailwater opportunities. Check the TVA website from the links below to see what tailwater fishing options you have today.
