Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:44 am, the temperature is 52 degrees.
It has been breezy tonight with light rain falling in the area. So far, one tenth of an inch has been recorded in Townsend.
It will be wet and breezy this morning mainly before noon. Rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch are possible. The high temperature will be in the low 50’s. Showers are likely tonight with a low in the low to middle 30’s.
There is a low chance for rain or snow tomorrow with a high in the low to middle 40’s dropping to the middle 20’s overnight.
Little River is flowing at 105 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.63 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 313 cfs. The water temperature is 38.5 degrees and rising this morning.
Streams in the mountains are flowing much lower than normal however several streams are slowly rising. Water temperatures are rising but still below the trout’s preferred range.
If you go fishing in the mountains today, fish in the lower elevations where the water is warmer. Nymphs will likely work best.
Fishing in the stocked rivers may be fair to good. Water temperatures are rising which is a favorable condition. Try nymphs, midge pupa, egg patterns, Squirmy Worms or other sub-surface flies.
There are angler friendly generation schedules planned at some dams today. Check the TVA website from the links below to see what tailwater fishing options you have.
