LITTLE RIVER OUTFITTERS WILL BE CLOSED TODAY DUE TO ICE ON THE ROADS. WE PLAN TO RE-OPEN TOMORROW MORNING.
Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:44 am, the temperature is 26 degrees.
We got just over an inch of rain yesterday in Townsend. There is no snow on the ground this morning though I read there is snow in other areas nearby. We do have a dusting of snow in the trees and on our deck at home.
Many roads in Great Smoky Mountains National Park are closed due to ice and snow.
There is a chance for snow or freezing rain this morning. The temperature today is predicted to fall to around 16 degrees by 9:00 am.
Tonight will be mostly cloudy with a low temperature around one (1) degree.
Tomorrow will be sunny with a high in the low to middle 30’s.
Little River is flowing at 464 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.60 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 268 cfs. The water temperature is 39.2 degrees this morning.
Streams in the Smokes are flowing close to normal with some flowing higher than normal. The water is chilly this morning but we will see water temperatures fall today.
This is not a good day to go fishing anywhere. If you fell in, the outcome could be fatal. Fishing will be slow anyway. Access to streams in the Smokies is limited.
Brothers Steve & Tom Brown will be conducting a Free Fly Tying demonstration next Saturday between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. Steve has been living in the Knoxville area for many years and is very active in the Clinch River Chapter of Trout Unlimited. Tom moved here from Virginia where he retired from Orvis.
Fly fishing guide Rob Fightmaster will be demonstrating Sunday January 21st between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Rob is an excellent guide who works in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. He has come up with some very effective Smokies fly patterns he will share with you.
You do not need a reservation to attend these free demonstrations. Just show up at the shop.
If we need to cancel a demonstration due to bad weather, you can find out on this report.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
