Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:50 am, the temperature in Townsend is 63 degrees.
We have a slight chance for showers today with a high temperature in the middle 60’s predicted. The low chance for showers continues tonight with a low temperature around 50 degrees.
A new storm system will move into the area tomorrow, bringing moderate to heavy rain. The high tomorrow will be in the low 60’s. Rain will change to snow tomorrow night in the high elevations. The low temperature in the valleys will be in the low 40’s overnight.
Sunday will be cooler with a high in the middle to upper 40’s and a 50% chance for showers.
Little River is flowing at 1,460 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 3.89 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 361 cfs. The water temperature is 48.4 degrees and rising.
Most streams in the mountains are flowing high, much higher than normal and in some cases, unsafe to wade and fish. The streams are receding and that is likely to continue today. If you go fishing, stand in safe water casting weighted nymphs and streamers. Some of these rivers have very strong currents so be careful.
The lowland rivers where trout are stocked are flowing higher than normal. Some rivers may be fishable, especially later today. Again, stand in safe water casting nymphs or streamers. Water temperatures are favorable for catching stocked trout in these rivers.
There are breaks in the generation planned at some dams today. Check the TVA website from the links below to see what your tailwater fishing options are.
