Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:49 am, the temperature in Townsend is 30 degrees.

Today will be partly sunny with a high temperature in the low to middle 60’s, dropping to the middle 40’s tonight. Showers are likely tomorrow and every day remaining this week and through Monday. High temperatures will be in the 60’s with lows in the upper 40’s to over 50 degrees through the end of the week.

Little River is flowing at 222 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.06 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 307 cfs. The water temperature is 42.1 degrees this morning.

Most streams in the mountains are flowing lower than normal for this date. Water temperature have remained cool but now we will see warmer temperatures at night. Water temperatures will react to the warmer days and nights with the warm rain. Fishing will improve unless we get too much rain over the next few days, which is possible.

If you go today, fish in the low elevations where the water is warmer. Weighted nymphs or nymph rigs are good choices.

Fishing for stocked trout is fair to good in the low elevation rivers. Sub-surface flies will work best for you.

TVA and the Corps will be generating all day at some dams while taking breaks during the day at others. Check the schedules at Chatuge, South Holston, Dale Hollow, Wolf Creek, Wilbur and Center Hill dams if you are wade fishing. If you are boating, there may be more options for you.

I am taking a few days off so Daniel will be writing the Fishing Report during that time. I’m going to sleep late every morning.  

Jason Alexander will be conducting our Saturday Free Fly Tying Demonstration (February 10). He will be tying between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. Jason lives in Maryville and has been a customer at the shop for many years. He has been fly fishing for much of his young life. He is a graphic artist. You probably noticed our huge selection of fly fishing themed stickers we sell in the shop. He designed many of those and sell them to us.

Our Free Fly Tying Demonstration Sunday (February 11) will feature Jimmy Jones, another Maryville resident. He will be tying between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Jimmy is an avid Smokies fisherman. Jimmy has some well-designed flies he uses to catch trout there. He has his own “Killer” version of the Neversink Caddis for you to learn to tie. 

You do not need a reservation to attend these free demonstrations. Just show up at the shop.
