Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:41 am, the temperature in Townsend is 53 degrees.
It rained almost all day yesterday. A personal weather station in town recorded 1.01 inches.
Today will be partly sunny and warm with a high temperature in the upper 60’s dropping to about 50 degrees tonight.
Rain returns to the forecast tomorrow, overnight and Saturday. It will be breezy Friday night and Saturday. The high temperature Friday will be in the middle to upper 60’s, falling to the low 50’s overnight. The high on Saturday will be in the upper 60’s.
Little River is flowing high at 1,120 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 3.42 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 390 cfs. The water temperature is 51.4 degrees.
Streams in the Smokies, especially those on the west side are flowing considerably higher than normal. They all have just recently peaked and are now receding. Some rivers are not safe to wade in some areas. You could fish if you are careful. Stand in safe water casting nymphs, dry flies, streamers or wet flies. Be careful.
Fishing for stocked trout may be fair but wading will be limited in many of the rivers. Try nymphs or streamers.
There are a few tailwater fishing options today, even if you are wading, but you need to be flexible and you may need to drive longer than you would prefer. Check the TVA website from the links below to see what tailwater fishing options you have.
Sunday, we will Spring forward into Daylight Saving Time at 2:00 am.
It is beginning to look a lot like Spring. Wildflowers are popping out of the ground.
Two wild turkeys got into a terrible fight right outside out back door. Paula heard them but missed actually seeing the fight. I was at work. What was left were a bunch of feathers, mostly flats, laying on the ground. Peepers have been calling each night before dark.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
