Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:44 am, the temperature in Townsend is 26 degrees.

Due to the combination of windy conditions today and low relative humidity, we will continue to be at an elevated fire risk until early this evening.

Today will be sunny and breezy with a high temperature in the middle 50’s dropping to the middle 30’s overnight.

Tomorrow will be sunny and much warmer, with a high in the middle 60’s and a low in the low to upper 30’s.

Little River is flowing at 437 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.48 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 380 cfs. The water temperature is 44.1 degrees and falling this morning.

Most streams in the mountains have receded to about normal. The streams are cold at all elevations and the water temperatures are falling quickly this morning. At some point later today, the water temperatures will bottom out and begin to rise. Yesterday that happened briefly at 4:00 pm. Fishing may be slow today due to the cold water temperatures.

If you go, make it later in the day when the water is warmer. Fish in the low elevations where the water is warmer. Weighted nymphs will probably work best of you today.

Fishing for stocked trout could also be slow today due to the cool water temperatures. Go later today and use weighted nymphs, egg patterns, squirmy worms or other sub-surface flies.

If you are hoping to fish on a tailwater today, check the TVA website to see the generation schedules and you might be pleasantly surprised. There are some very interesting schedules at many dams. Many of the pauses will be in the afternoon hours.

There is a warming trend approaching that will improve the fishing later this week. There are no nighttime temperatures in the 20’s in the long term forecast through the end of the month.
