Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 6:06 am, the temperature in Townsend is 31 degrees.
Though today will begin with widespread frost, it will be sunny with the temperature rising to the upper 60’s and falling to the upper 30’s tonight.
Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy and slightly warmer with a high in the upper 60’s and a low in the upper 40’s.
Rain returns Tuesday.
Little River is flowing at 401 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.41 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 379 cfs. The water temperature is 45.9 degrees and falling.
Most streams in the mountains are flowing at or below normal this morning. Little Pigeon River at the Sevierville gauge is flowing higher than normal. Water temperatures are falling.
If you go fishing in the mountains today, you will find better conditions later, after the water temperature bottoms out and begins to rise. Watch the USGS gauge in Townsend online from the link below. If the water temperature reaches 50 degrees, trout and aquatic insects will be active.
Fishing for stocked trout will be good today.
There are breaks in the generation planned today at several dams including Cherokee, Norris, Wolf Creek, Dale Hollow, South Holston, Tims Ford and Chatuge. You can work with some of these schedules whether you are wading or boating. Check the schedule for your favorite tailwater on the TVA website from the links below.
It doesn’t feel like Spring this morning but it is. The long term weather forecast indicates this is going to be the last period of freezing temperatures through April 7th. We are busy at the shop as anglers are fishing more right now and preparing to fish more later. Anglers are also traveling here from other states to fish.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
