Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:44 am, the temperature in Townsend is 61 degrees.
Newfound Gap Road from Gatlinburg to Cherokee was closed last night in anticipation of the strong winds that occurred overnight.
It was very windy overnight in Townsend and at our home. It will be daylight in a few hours. I expect to see downed trees.
Today will be windy with showers mainly after noon with a high temperature in the low 60’s, falling to the upper 40’s tonight. Winds blowing between 15 miles per hour and 30 miles per hour are expected, with gust as high as 50 miles per hour possible. Rainfall up to one inch is possible.
The high elevations in the Smokies are under a high wind warning until later today.
There is a slight chance for showers tomorrow before clearing later, with a high in the upper 50’s and a low in the middle to upper 30’s.
Little River is flowing at 332 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.26 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 348 cfs. The water temperature is 49.5 degrees this morning.
Most streams in the mountains are flowing lower than normal. That may change later today due to the expected rain.
This may not be a good day to be fishing in the mountains due to the high winds and the possibility of being hit by a limb or tree. There is also the chance for more roads to close due to downed trees.
The turbines will be shut down for short to mostly long periods today at many dams. Check the TVA website to see what tailwater fishing options you have and there are plenty to choose from.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
