Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:49 am, the temperature in Townsend is 50 degrees.
It rained across the area yesterday. Rainfall amounts of .38 inches fell in Townsend while .85 inches was reported at the Knoxville Airport.
Today will be partly sunny with a high temperature in the middle 60’s, dropping to the upper 30’s tonight.
Tomorrow will be sunny with a high in the low 60’s and a low in the middle to upper 30’s.
Friday through Sunday will be mostly sunny and warm with warmer nights.
Little River is flowing at 474 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.55 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 330 cfs. The water temperature is 50.7 degrees this morning.
Most streams in the mountains are flowing higher than normal. Many are at good fishing levels or on the “high side of good”. The rivers are receding quickly. Water temperatures are within the trout’s preferred range in the low elevations this morning. We will continue to see warming water today, with brief drops at night when air temperatures will fall into the 30’s.
Fishing will be best later in the day when the water is warmer. Fish in the lower elevations where the water is warmer.
Dry flies, nymphs or wet fly emergers may all work but nymphs will produce best at most elevations, especially where the water is colder.
Fishing for stocked trout is good though some rivers may be flowing higher than you prefer. Wading may be limited in some of the low elevation rivers. Trout will be actively feeding, especially later in the day when the water is warmer.
Tailwater anglers have a ton of options today, whether you are wade fishing or boating. There are pauses in the generation schedules at many dams. Check the schedules on the TVA website and plan your tailwater fishing day. This will be another good one.
The shop is loaded with new gear for Spring. I don’t think we have ever had this much inventory. Of huge importance right now is the fly department, which is stocked extremely well. We cater to all fly anglers with our selection. This is not just a mountain fly shop. It is a complete fly shop. Just check out our fly selection and you will understand what I mean.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
