Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:42 am, the temperature in Townsend is 44 degrees.
The Park Service website states Laurel Creek Road, Cades Cove Loop Road, Cades Cove Campground and upper Tremont Road are closed due to downed trees. No timetable has been given on when the roads or the campground will reopen.
It will be cloudy this morning before clearing later today with a high temperature around 60 degrees and a low tonight in the upper 30’s. It will be sunny tomorrow with a high in the upper 60’s and a low in the middle 40’s.
Saturday and Sunday will be sunny and warm.
Little River is flowing at 350 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.30 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 313 cfs. The water temperature is 51.3 degrees this morning.
Most streams in the Smokies are flowing very close to normal. Water temperatures are within the trout’s preferred range in the low to middle elevations.
Fish in the lower elevations where the water is warmer. Nymphs, dry flies and wet flies should all produce for you. You may see many different species of aquatic insects on the water. Try to match what you see.
Fishing for stocked trout will be good today. Try nymphs, egg patterns, squirmy worms or streamers. If those are not working, downsize to midge pupa with weight.
There are pauses in the generation planned at many dams today offering tailwater angling opportunities for wading or boating. Visit the TVA website to see what tailwater fishing options you have today.
This should be a good fishing day though access to some streams is limited by road closures. Some of these roads could open today so check the Park Service website for updates before you go.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
