Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:47 am, the temperature in Townsend is 50 degrees.

There is a chance for showers and thunderstorms this morning. Today will be mostly cloudy with a high temperature in the upper 50’s. It will be breezy today and tonight. The low tonight will be in the middle 30’s.

It will be breezy tomorrow with rain and snow turning to rain after 10 am with a high temperature around 50 degrees, dropping to the low 30’s overnight.

Little River is flowing at 256 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.07 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 355 cfs. The river is rising. The water temperature is 59.4 degrees this morning.

Most streams in the mountains are rising. Cataloochee Creek is rising quickly. Over one half of an inch or rainfall was recorded in Townsend overnight. There is a chance some streams will rise to fairly high levels. If you go fishing in the Smokies today, check the USGS gauge sites first. Pick a gauge that is near where you intend to fish. Nymphs, dry flies and wet flies are probably all good choices. It may be windy.

Fishing for stocked trout may be good today but that depends on the stream conditions later. It will be overcast which is always a good condition. Nymphs, egg patterns, squirmy worms, midge pupa or streamers are good fly choices.

Many of our tailwaters have been fishing well for trout. I am hearing that from many sources, including guides. There are pauses in the generation planned at many dams today. If you are wading or boating, you can find some time to spend on a tailwater today.
